Local Rules

Penalty Areas

All penalty areas on the course are defined by obvious natural or constructed boundaries and are not marked with stakes. Where present, these margins should be treated as red penalty areas. All douits are classes as penalty areas.

When a ball is in a penalty area, golfers must proceed under (Rule 17 - Penalty Areas) of the R&A Rules of Golf.

Out of Bounds

Out of bounds is defined by clear physical boundaries across the course and is not marked with stakes, unless otherwise specified below. This includes:

  • To the right of the granite wall (on the bridle path) on Hole 2.
  • To the left of the douit (on the bridle path) on Hole 9.

When a ball is out of bounds, golfers must proceed under (Rule 18.2 - Out of Bounds) of the R&A Rules of Golf.

SSS Areas

Certain areas of the course are designated as SSS (Sites of Special Significance). These areas are strictly protected and are defined as Out of Bounds. If a player's ball lies in, or it is known or virtually certain that it is in, an SSS area, the player must proceed under Rule 18.2 (Out of Bounds).

Local Rule - 6th Hole Safety Restriction

For safety reasons, the line to the right of the copse of trees, from the 6th tee is strictly prohibited. All golfers must play the hole by proceeding to the left of the copse of trees, in the direction of the bunker.

Any golfer deliberately breaching this rule will be asked to leave La Grande Mare.

Ornamental & Landscaped Areas (No Play Zones)

There are a number of ornamental and landscaped areas across La Grande Mare that are designated for protection. These areas are defined as No Play Zones and form part of an abnormal course condition. If a player's ball lies in one of these areas, the player must not play the ball as it lies and must take free relief in accordance with Rule 16.1f (Relief from Abnormal Course Condition - No Play Zone).
