Walk the walk
Hole-by-hole
La Grande Mare is a beautiful course full of surprises, twists and turns — words can’t really do it justice. But if you'd like a glimpse of what to expect, or to start laying the strategic groundwork for your next round, this page walks you through the highlights of each hole.
Hole 1
Play safely left away from lake and bunkers, or take on the hazards to unlock a more favourable line into an angled, intricately contoured green. A compelling opener.
Hole 2
Deceptively short and utterly exacting, this par 3 demands your most precise strike to hold the green. Water and OB lie in wait for any errant shots.
Hole 3
This driveable par 4 will tempt you into making the bold shot, attempting to carry the deep-set bunkers on the dogleg to reach the green. A measured lay up reveals a more open angle into a narrow green framed by Guernsey stone.
Hole 4
Tightly framed by hedgerows and visually intimidating despite its accessible length, this narrow par 4 rewards brave play. Thread the needle along the stream for the ideal angle into a raised, two-tier green.
Hole 5
A beautifully nuanced par 3, where a high plateau and a hidden punchbowl basin offer contrasting routes onto the green, each shaped by the natural slope of the land and clever bunker design.
Hole 6
Strategically demanding from the tee box, you can choose to challenge the fairway bunker for the clearest approach or lay up to the left to open up a more measured line into a subtly defended green.
Hole 7
The definition of risk versus reward. Drive boldly over the water for your chance at an eagle putt or lay up left and attempt a tricky pitch to a narrow, guarded green.
Hole 8
A striking carry across our orchid-filled nature reserve is the direct line, while the ‘safe route’ to the right brings bunkers and a perilously difficult chip shot into play. With its raised green, this hole demands your total respect.
Hole 9
A long par 4 of tour calibre. Take on the cross bunkers to shorten the approach into a pulpit green, where water and tightly mown surrounds will punish any lapse in execution. Mind the out-of-bounds left.
Hole 10
Shaped by a central bunker and a serpentine river that encircles the green, this hole rewards thoughtful positioning and a deft touch. With an expansive and contoured surface, two-putts are far from guaranteed.
Hole 11
Played over the pond to an undulating green protected by a sculpted bunker and a legion of swales, this hole tests every aspect of your iron game.
Hole 12
An iconic carry across a broad lake to an angled green flanked by sand, where certain pin positions demand absolute commitment.
Hole 13
A sweeping par 5 with water always in play, this hole culminates in a striking green set beside a pond and, one day, against the beautiful Country Club backdrop.
Hole 14
Defined by fescue-covered, links-style mounding, this bunkerless par 3 rewards both imaginative shot shaping and delicate touch.
Hole 15
On 15, a good position from the tee is paramount. Favouring the right side opens the angle to the green, which is set beyond a narrow stream, and only the most delicate approaches will do.
Hole 16
With its sharp dogleg and well-placed bunker, this hole is short, quirky, and hugely enjoyable. Attempting to drive the green is not advised.
Hole 17
The most intimidating tee shot in the Channel Islands. No card is safe until the three lakes, two streams, river and woodland of this par 5 are safely navigated. A solitary bunker acts as a gatekeeper to the expansive, hard-earned green. We wish you luck.
Hole 18
A closing hole of championship stature, the 18th demands precision on every stroke. The large, triangular green is overlooked by the Country Club and guarded by both water and sand. No pressure.
