Lessons
Whatever your level of play, La Grande Mare has a dedicated team of golf professionals on-hand to help improve your game. From beginners to single figure handicaps, Matt Groves, our resident PGA Head Golf Pro, can offer formal instruction and sound advice. There is a variety of tuition packages available including:
Ready Steady Golf
Gone are the days of dropping the kids of at the club and paying £1.50 for an hour of disorganised instruction.
Ready Steady Golf offers a structured programme aimed at developing the aspiring young golfers of today. Each course consists of 6 one-hour lessons guiding the young golfer through the basics of setting up and gripping correctly whilst developing sound swing technique and the all-important short game skills. Along with this, course management, etiquette and rules situations will be addressed to ensure all students are more than capable when the time comes for them to step onto the course.
Beginner Lessons
Unsure if golf is the game for you? Why not experience it first hand in a fun and informative environment? Many people start out in golf with group lessons allowing them to become familiar with good fundamentals of the long and short game. These group lessons can be arranged through the La Grande Mare Academy and are perfect for company sports and social groups as well the aspiring golfer.
Ladies Master Golf
Ladies Master Golf are group lessons specific to women and their individual needs. As women your strength and flexibility levels often differ quite considerably to those of men and as such swing technique and its instruction needs to be tailored accordingly. As well as sound technical advice you will also be introduced to basic rules and etiquette plus course management and psychology.
Playing Lessons
For years Golf Professionals have been very proficient in teaching their students how to hit a golf ball but have not always been able to teach them how to play golf.
Studies in sport have proven that if your practice/coaching does not reflect what takes place in a game situation it is not always of benefit. All too often golf instruction takes place within the confines of the driving range and works exclusively on swing technique.
The role of any golfer is to “shoot the lowest possible score on any given day using whatever skills they can bring to the course”. By observing your game first hand we will be able to make recommendations on how you can improve your scoring through better shot selection, course management, strategy and psychology. Learning to make the most of whatever skills you have today will ensure you make better use of any skills you develop in the future.
Explanar Lessons
The Explanar teaches the golf swing by turning your swing thoughts into feelings, in the same way that stabilisers/training wheels on a bicycle offer guidance during the process of learning to ride. We all learn quicker by experiencing an action rather than through the spoken or written word. Once you have learned the basic skill of balance, improving your technique becomes easier. The Explanar hoop is easily set to each individual's optimum biomechanical swing plane using the calibrated struts.
The Power Roller™ trains/retrains and builds the golfing muscles, creating a more dynamic and athletic swing. The Plane Fin™ is an essential reference point. It will act as an indicator as to whether or not you are swinging on your optimum plane. The Radial Stance Mat™ is an industry first and enables you to practice intentional draw and fade shots.
The Explanar hoop is used in conjunction with a weighted Power Roller. You step inside the Explanar rest the Power Roller on the hoop and take your grip and stance in the centre of the Explanar with the Power Roller in the central ball position. The Explanar is then adjusted to the correct angle in order that you can swing the Power Roller on your optimum biomechanical swing plane.
You are then ready to initiate the swing. With the aid of your PGA professional and a series of Explanar drills, you are now able to make a golf swing on your ideal swing plane.
Video Lessons
Combining verbal instruction with imagery and feelings is the most powerful way of learning a motor skill such as the golf swing. Using the GASP (Golf Analysis Software for Professionals) software we are able to conduct a detailed analysis of your technique and make comparisons to the best players in the world.
Each student is able to download a free version of the software form the GASP website and play back video clips of his swing on their home computer.
We have recently acquired a new piece of training software (Computer Coach from Golf Training Systems), which aims to improve technique. Having first recorded your swing, our professionals can then provide a step-by-step digital analysis of your form. This can then be compared to the swings of pro-golfers and transferred to video for you to take home and study.
Inner Game (sports psychology)
We train our bodies, we train our technique and yet we leave out one of the if not the most important muscle of all.... the Brain. What are the consequences to your sport, your business and your Life? Trained Brain utilises the very best of cognitive psychology, NLP, sports hypnosis, inner game & neuroscience strategies to give you practical, effective and lasting tools to produce peak performance.
Your present position in sport or in your life is a result of your patterns and habits. Your future position will be the same unless you change these limiting patterns. How does the prospect of staying the same feel? Most psychological training systems are ineffective because they are based primarily on academic theory rather than practical tools that can be utilised in the real world. If you where to look back at the end of your career with regret at not having achieved your potential you would be able to isolate one key decision that you didn't regard how important a Trained Brain is to your ultimate success. "Sport is played with the body but only if the mind gets out of the way."
Private Tuition
We at La Grande Mare Golf Academy firmly believe that one-off half hour range lessons are a thing of the past. Just because I decide to go for a run today does not mean I will wake up super fit in the morning. Fitness comes about by way of a lifestyle change and is best achieved through gradual sustained effort. We make changes today to be in better shape in six months to a year’s time.
The same approach should be taken with your golf game. Flailing away on the range for half an hour is unlikely to undo many years of deeply engrained swing technique. Instead we would prefer that you enrol on one of our game improvement programmes.
Starting with a 9 hole-playing appraisal we will be able to identify strengths an weaknesses within your game technically, observe your course management skills, decision making and metal attitude. Following the 9 holes a brief consultation will help identify your goals and the time frame within which you hope to achieve them. Consideration will be made as to what amount of time you have to commit to practice and lessons prior to lesson structure being agreed upon.
